Life Down a Back Road with Anna

Have you tried an armpit detox?

Armpit Detox
Are you thinking about changing to a natural deodorant?  Have you tried one and aren’t happy with it because it doesn’t seem to last all day?   Maybe you need to do an armpit detox.   What is an armpit detox you ask?   Well it just what it says, it is a way to detox your armpit to get out all the things in your armpit that are causing issues.  What are the benefits?  It eliminates odor, removes the buildup from deodorants and antiperspirants, and it increases the effectiveness of natural deodorant.  Why use a natural deodorant?  Have you checked lately what is in your deodorant?  Do you want those things right over the top of your glands?  Why is this a big deal? Ever gotten sick and had a lump in your neck or armpit? That is a lymph node and they are a major part of your immune system. Putting endocrine disruption chemicals directly on top of them is a great way to screw up your hormones and suppress immune function.  Store bought deodorants and antiperspirants contain a variety of chemicals and additives.   Check the label of ingredients to see what is in yours.  It takes something unnatural to block the body’s natural ability to sweat.  Here is a list of some of these chemicals:

  1. Aluminum– Some evidence links aluminum to cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease
  2.  Phthalates– Endocrine disruptors often also found in plastic that can cause hormone imbalance and even infertility (especially in men)
  3.  Propylene glycol– Common name: antifreeze. It is a hotly debated additive in personal care products but the Environmental Working Group reports says that it carries a moderate risk of immunotoxicity and allergies
  4.  Formaldehyde-  A known carcinogen… guess it kills the germs though
  5. Parabens- Another hormone disruptor and parabens have been found in biopsied tissue with breast cancer
  6. Antibacterial Substances-  they are endocrine disruptors and can negatively affect the immune system

Ingredients

Instructions
  1. Mix all of the ingredients in a glass bowl (do not use metal!) with a wooden or non-metal spoon until about the consistency of sour cream.
  2. Spread in an even layer over the armpits and allow to sit for 5-20 minutes. I suggest starting slowly and working up to a longer period of time once you see how your body adjust. If it hurts at all, remove immediately.
  3. This may cause some redness as it will increase blood flow to the area, but it will go away quickly.
  4. Wash off in the shower or with a warm, wet washcloth.
  5. Repeat daily or as needed until underarm odor goes away and natural deodorant is non-irritating.

Blessings,
Anna

Hair Care

Hair Care
In my last blog post we talked about the 15 most dangerous chemicals in your bathroom products.  So tell me what can you pull from this list?   It is mission critical that you swap out your personal care products.  The number one poison in your home is actually laundry soap, because you are washing them in your home; and outgassing as the clothes sit in your closet all night and you breathe in the toxic fumes.  The number two poison is in personal care products.  A third of the ingredients on the top 15 dangerous chemicals list may cause cancer or hormone disruptions.  1 in 3 men and 1 in 5 women will have cancer by the age of 60.  The American Cancer Society says only 5 percent of cases are genetic.  That means we have to get to a point where we stop saying “everything is going to kill me”, and start reading labels.  Something as simple as snagging one shampoo over another could have life changing repercussions for you and your family.

Meet Anna McElligott

Once upon a time our lives were so much harder.  We had no options for helping ourselves with everyday bumps, bruises and overall issues that every family with children encounter.  When my children were small I knew deep down that I didn’t like using all the things I was told I needed on hand for all the things children got when small.  I had no idea there were so many different viruses and weird illnesses out there until I had kids!

Fast forward several years to when my kids were getting older and one suffered greatly with allergies.   I knew in my heart there had to be a better way!  As I was talking to my niece about this she told me about a product she had discovered that helped her immensely, and this product was all natural!!!

I waited an entire year before I decided to jump in and give it a try, this particular spring was really getting to my child with allergies and I hated feeding her OTC allergy meds.   I took the plunge and ordered the products she suggested and was so happy with how much they helped my daughter, no more allergy meds for us!!!

Our lives are so much better now and in my research I have discovered so many more ways to use the products she suggested.  Now when we have the sniffles or someone gets a bump or one of them is stressing over a problem I have a way to help them naturally!  I am so happy and we are so much healthier as a result!!!
